Curiosity and Climate Science
In a new video from ClimateX, Professor of Atmospheric Science Kerry Emanuel explains the origins of climate science and shares with us the areas which interest him most. He stresses the importance of climate science research and implores talented students to get involved in what he considers to be an underpopulated field.
Emanuel is a the Cecil & Ida Green Professor of Atmospheric Science in MIT’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS); a member of the Program in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate (PAOC) in EAPS; and Co-Director of the Lorenz Center. He is a prominent meteorologist and climate scientist who specializes in moist convection in the atmosphere, and tropical cyclones. His research interests focus on tropical meteorology and climate, with a specialty in hurricane physics. His interests also include cumulus convection, the role of clouds, water vapor, and upper-ocean mixing in regulation of climate, and advanced methods of sampling the atmosphere in aid of numerical weather prediction.
